Employment Law is continuously evolving and developing. The Workplace Relations Act, 2015 commenced on the 1st October. In effect, there will be two statutory bodies instead of four. The Workplace Relations Commission will deal with all industrial relations, employment law, employment equality disputes and complaints.

The Employment Appeals Tribunal (EAT) is being abolished and its functions in relation to claims for redress, disputes or complaints are being transferred to the Workplace Relations Commission.

The EAT will continue to function until it completes the cases which are before it when the Act comes into effect. There are currently 3,500 before it and the average waiting time for a hearing before the EAT is currently 63 weeks.
